Names changes

When applying to À¦°óSM, potential students need to provide their full legal name on the application form. If a student is returning to À¦°óSM or would like to apply to another program, please also enter the full legal name and as well your À¦°óSM student number to ensure that their full academic history will be unified and avoid a duplicate student number.

Information for students wishing to update their student record once legally changing their name through marriage or personal choice.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 2: Bring a valid government-issued ID (like a Driver’s License, BC ID card, or Passport).

Alternatively, you can email a picture or PDF of your valid government-issued ID to registration along with your À¦°óSM student number, and your record will be updated.

Related questions

What if I do not have my new government issued ID. Will À¦°óSM accept my marriage certificate?
No, we would prefer the student to wait until they receive their new government issued identification then present it to À¦°óSM to update the student record.

I made a typing error when I submitted my application and entered the name incorrectly. How can I change that?
À¦°óSM will be able to make corrections on your student record when you present your valid government issued ID.

What if I go by my middle name? Or a different name?
Since your credential or transcript is a legal document, we require your full legal name in our system. However, we can enter a “preferred name†that will be used in correspondence and communication.
